Fear in Apocalyptic Movies
Apocalyptic movies such as Armageddon or Deep impact are movies that can keep me up at night. They instill a certain fear that is indescribable. Although many of them are far from reality, it is a though that is always floating around "What if?".
These movies show that no matter how much humans grow in technology and power we are still unable to hide or protect ourselves from everything. Like in deep impact where the asteroid hit the water, and the dad and daughter had no choice but to hold each other because they know they couldn't outrun it. Additionally, these movies confront us with the idea that everything we own and have or people we love could be gone in an instant. I mentioned above the question "What if?" and that brings up another question that always gets me thinking for hours when watching these movies and it is "What would I do in this situation?". Sometimes we think we are very brave or strong enough to face certain challenges in life but putting ourselves into these scenarios of these movies can get us to rethink our perspective.
Apocalyptic movies instill fear with the visuals and music they add to move us. The examples of visuals are tsunamis, asteroids, or earthquakes which can make us feel hopeless as a society.
How do apocalyptic movies make you feel?
